Commuter Bus Mechanic:  Responsible for maintenance, and repair of vehicles, establishment and continual maintenance commuter vehicle service records. Coordinate and schedule vehicles for preventive maintenance.

Maintains Audit and Operational Testing records. Prepare and maintain vehicle specifications that would be used by Valley Transit. Diagnose vehicular problems and repair.

Takes action to correct safety deficiencies and provide a safe working environment.

Inspects equipment and vehicles for fleet safety and compliance with industry standards for FRA, OSHA, ANSI and NIOSH and other pertinent regulations. Resolve vehicle breakdowns when they occur including performance of road calls and related travel when breakdowns occur in route. Investigates accidents and incidents and provides information to Valley Transit management’s staff and the Board of Directors as needed. Audits transit operating personnel for compliance with ARRC Rules and Regulations as well as all applicable Valley Transit policies and procedures.

Works with procurement staff to acquire and stock equipment components through best management practice. Monitors purchases of equipment related materials to ensure efficient utilization of budgeted resources. Ensures ARRC purchasing policies and procedures are adhered to. Work closely with vendors for repairs, tires, etc. Dispatch substitute vehicles during breakdown emergencies and document breakdown in vehicle file.

Document and record all  maintenance, repairs, tire rotation, mileage traveled and replacement service to file and document as directed by the Manager and/or Executive Director for Board Reports.

Other duties as assigned according to the general position description.

Job Requirements:

Tools required for the maintenance of commuter fleet. Ability to lift 50 pounds.

The position is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) – Federal Transit Administration (FTA) drug and alcohol testing. Additionally, applicants of safety-sensitive positions are required (even if ultimately not hired) to provide Valley Transit with signed written releases requesting USDOT drug and alcohol records from all previous, USDOT-covered, employers that the applicant has worked for within the last two years. Failure to do so will result in the employment offer being rescinded. Valley Transit is also required to ask all applicants (even if ultimately not hired) if they have tested positive or refused to test on a pre-employment test for any USDOT covered employer within the last two years.

 Compensation: $28-$38/hour DOE. Benefits after probationary period include: paid holidays, paid time off, IRA match, and health. Compensation & benefits are evaluated annually and subject to change based on budgetary constraints.

Customer Service & Demand Response Manager: The Customer Service & Demand Response Manager is responsible day to day operations of Customer Service and Demand Response service, facility, and personnel including but not limited to daily manifest for demand/response routes, scheduling demand/response drivers, dispatch, and maintenance with mechanics.

The Customer Service and Demand Response Manager is responsible for the creation of daily manifest for demand/response routes. Operating communication systems utilizing radio, telephone and computer equipment to provide assistance to bus drivers and the public in support of daily transit operations of demand response and commuter transit services. Prepares and maintains manual and computerized files and records including operations reports, incident logs, accident reports, comment logs, and data concerning service interruptions, cancellations, vehicle breakdowns, etc.; provides information to the public; dispatches personnel and equipment in response to service requests. Performs dispatch duties to provide full coverage of calls for reservations. Monitors two-way radio; sends and receives messages; authorizes route changes to drivers in cases of client cancellations and/or additions, inclement weather, unsafe operating conditions, road construction or other unique situations affecting delivery of services. Instructs drivers concerning directions and detours. Contacts police, fire and ambulance in emergency situations. Notifies supervision for replacement vehicles or drivers when needed due to accidents, breakdowns, or other unforeseen emergencies. Reports operational problems and incidents to Executive Director and/or Commuter Manager; makes recommendations and proposes solutions to operational issues. Schedules demand-response clients utilizing computerized scheduling and dispatching software to support efforts of Valley Transit’s demand response transit services. Reviews, organizes and maintains trip manifests to maximize route efficiencies. Manages demand response drivers and customer service representatives, schedules including leave request. Responsible to maintains written and computer generated logs of all service requests; updates client information, driver hours, mileage and passenger information and assure accuracy for reporting purposes. Responds to calls and service requests promptly and with courtesy; provides information to the public in a courteous manner regarding demand-response and fixed-route transit services. May drive a transit vehicle on an assigned route as necessary. Will work with Mechanic to schedule demand response vehicle maintenance. Trains and schedule trainings for customer service and demand response staff. Maintains housekeeping for Demand Response & Customer Service facility. Collects and provides regular accurate reporting on demand response and customer service to Executive Director. Works with tech support with various vendors. Always provide a high level of professionalism and customer service. Must stay up to date with transit programs and/or equipment with effect to customer service. Performs other duties as assigned by Executive Director.

 Job Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent. Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure with a high degree of independence including setting and adhering to time constraints.
